Spay and Neuter

Cat & Dog Spay and Neuter

You may have heard the words “spay and neuter your pets” many times before. While we have come a long way in veterinary medicine, pet overpopulation is still a major concern in some areas of the country. It’s important to our team at Dundee Animal Hospital that your pets have a healthy start in life. One of the fundamental steps we recommend for all of our clients is to have their pets spayed and neutered while they are still young.

Cat and dog spay and neuter surgeries are both a preventive and preemptive form of treatment. Your pet’s life may just be starting, but you need to anticipate potential problems in their future. Spaying and neutering prevents unplanned pregnancies and reduces or eliminates undesirable behaviors. Furthermore, it eliminates the possibility of your pet developing cancer when they are older. Your pet’s age, breed, species and health history may also play a role in determining whether surgery is the best option.

What Health and Behavior Problems Does Spay and Neuter Prevent?

The most common health and behavioral benefits of spay and neuter are listed below:

Females

Males

Our veterinarians have accumulated years of experience performing spay and neuter surgeries, and they always implement strict safety policies. From pre-anesthetic exams and bloodwork to monitoring, we can assure you that your pet will be kept as safe and comfortable as possible. If you would like to arrange for a consultation with your veterinarian and discuss spaying and neutering for your pet, give us a call–we would love to hear from you!

Dr. Larsen is a wonderful human being. He is so patient and kind, and gentle, especially when he is delivering bad news. He is knowledgeable about his craft and he has a great "bedside manner". My timid little girls are willing to work with him. They are especially nervous around men and they seem to have taken right to him. I appreciate all of the help and care he has provided us. We would highly recommend Dundee animal clinic and their staff!

Your doctor was wonderful! She was kind and patient with me...I am somewhat of a spaz when it comes to my fur babies and she made me feel comfortable with the treatment plan. She also gave me additional options should angel get worse. I have been a client of Dundee animal hospital for about a year and I won't take my pets anywhere else again. I typically take my girls to the Elgin location, when the injury occurred they didn't have any openings so the receptionist looked at the Dundee location and found an appointment within seconds and got me in within an hour of my call. I love that the locations communicate with each other and help clients with their pets injuries get seen as soon as possible. For a spazzy pet mom like me this is the best vet I have ever been to. I've had pets all of my life and I worked at a vets office for several years, so saying that says a lot about them. I highly recommend both locations, your pets will thank you!
