What to Expect When
Your Pet Needs Surgery:
General &
Elective Procedures:

Declaw

The surgical removal of a cat's claws is best performed at an early age, when postoperative bleeding and discomfort are minimal. If desired, this procedure can be performed at the same time as a spay or neuter. In addition to the general anesthetic, a local anesthetic is placed into each surgical site to help reduce discomfort following the surgery. Each toe is then individually sutured with dissolvable stitches. The patient's paws are bandaged overnight to minimize any bleeding. These bandages are removed the following morning and your pet will most likely be released in the early afternoon once the paws are reevaluated by a doctor.
