What to Expect When
Your Pet Needs Surgery:
General &
Elective Procedures:

The Day of Surgery

In preparation for surgery, your pet will be pre-medicated with a sedative to help reduce anxiety prior to the anesthesia. With the pre-operative sedative, a drug to reduce pain and provide relief during and after the surgery is included. A catheter is placed for intravenous fluids, which are administered during and following the surgery until our patient has fully recovered from the sedation and anesthesia. The catheter is also used for an injection of a short acting medication that allows for the placement of a tube in our patientıs airway (intubation) if required for the specific procedure. The intubation tube is then connected to an inhalant anesthetic, isoflurane gas, which is designed to provide the safest level of general anesthesia.
