A spay procedure involves the removal of both ovaries and the uterus. Following the surgery, multiple layers of suture are used to close the incision site. If outer skin sutures are placed by the surgeon, they are removed at the hospital usually 7-10 days following the surgery.
A neuter procedure is the removal of both testes. In the neuter procedure, dissolvable sutures are used and placed below the skin. Removal of the stitches is not required.
